Products Description

Mounted directly on the down conductor or within the lightning protection path, the counter operates without any external power supply. With a durable, weatherproof casing, the digital strike counter is ideal for both indoor and outdoor installations. Its easy-to-read display ensures quick data checks, helping facilities maintain optimal safety standards.

Key Features – Digital Strike Counter

  • Accurate Strike Counting: Detects and records each lightning strike precisely.
  • Battery-Free Operation: Works without external power or battery – maintenance-free.
  • Easy to Read Display: Digital LCD for instant and clear strike count visibility.
  • Weatherproof Enclosure: IP-rated casing ensures durability in all environments.
  • Easy Installation: Mounts directly on the down conductor or system path.
  • Reset Option Available: Optional reset feature for strike data management.

How It Operates:

Usually, the digital strike counter is situated near ground level, right on the lightning protection system’s down conductor. The massive electrical current flows down the down conductor to the earth when a lightning strike is stopped by the air termination device, which is the lightning rod on the roof.
By identifying the magnetic field or voltage impulse produced by this high-current flow, the strike counter operates. Since it is a passive device, no external power source is needed. Rather, the lightning strike’s electricity powers it, activating its internal circuitry and increasing the digital display.

Applications of Digital Strike Counter

  • ESE Lightning Protection Systems for commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure.
  • Airports, Stadiums & High-Rise Buildings exposed to frequent lightning activity.
  • Oil & Gas Refineries and Power Plants needing system health monitoring.
  • Telecommunication Towers to track lightning exposure over time.
  • Solar Power Plants to ensure protection system effectiveness and maintenance scheduling.

Relevance and Uses:
A computerized strike counter’s data is extremely significant for a number of reasons.

  1. Verifying System Effectiveness: By logging each strike, it offers verifiable proof that the lightning protection system is operating as planned. For insurance purposes and in order to comply with safety standards, this information is essential.
  2. Maintenance Scheduling: Maintenance inspections can be scheduled based on the amount of strikes. It is advised to perform a comprehensive examination of the entire LPS (air terminals, down conductors, and earth termination system) to look for any damage or degradation after a specific number of strikes or during an exceptionally busy lightning season.
  3. Risk Assessment: With time, the information may aid in a facility’s risk assessment becoming more precise. A high frequency of strikes can suggest that the lightning protection system needs to be improved.
  4. Damage Analysis: The counter can verify that a lightning event happened if a strike does result in damage, which will aid in the investigation and insurance claims procedure.
